Church of Trance
Trance’s worship in Erolan rests heavily on the concept of fellowship. Whether sharing a story on the road with a stranger, or stoking the fires for some weary travellers, worshippers of Trance try their best to focus on the good in people. They believe that fellowship builds a simple strength between people, and that sharing your blessings with others will bring good fortune to you in turn. Together with his sister goddess Dolor, Trance represents a twin doctrine of enjoying life, learning from others, and building strength for a brighter future.
Despite the popularity of the worship Trance, he has very few temples, preferring small shrines on roadsides where travelers may stop and rest, or humble tables within bars and inns that favor community over profit. Shrines are often guarded by a Road Watcher or two, depending on the popularity of the site. Many a bandit or thug has been surprised when the fellow drinking at the bar they acost turns out to be a Road Watcher, who are trained to subdue and capture aggressors for the local community to deal with as their laws see fit.
Of the few true temples of Trance, the most famous is the Church of the Eternal Brew, on the southernmost isle of the White Cloud Republic. Though deceiving to look upon, the three story inn of simple stone and wood is always packed wall to wall, and music streams from every cracked window, and follows every puff of smoke from the fireplace. Watched over by the clergy of Trance, devout come from every corner of the known world to drink from the Eternal Brew. Sitting atop a stone altar at the center of the inn, is a silver goblet, with an ornate handle covered in symbols of cornucopias. On its base are gold inlaid symbols of Trance, his mask of laughter reflecting bright in the local firelight. His devotees follow the ever moving line to sip from the goblet, sharing tales and speaking to other pilgrims from far away lands.
Each drinker reports a different taste from the Eternal Brew, but each come to the inevitable conclusion that is simply the finest brew that have yet to sample. Inebriating in the extreme, a single sip is the most a drinker can manage before stumbling to a nearby table, often overcome with inspiration and sharing their new ideas with those nearby. How the Eternal Brew is truly amazing however, is that to date, the goblet has never run dry, nor spilt its contents anywhere but into the waiting mouths of the faithful.
Description of Church/Clergy: The faithful of the god Trance are mostly a caring and friendly lot. They follow his tenants of community and the joys of life with a hopeful zeal that many of the uninitiated find surprising. His lay-clergy, called “road priests and priestesses”, are tasked with travelling from village to village, usually staying within a large circuit of five or so communities. They spread blessings, healing, tales and songs from community to community, with most road priests territory overlapping, so that a single tale has been often told from Il Paraonde to Yomi. The leaders of the faith, called “Revellers of Trance”, lead several road priests and a contingent of the faith militant, called “Road Watchers”, across the known world, spreading the songs and tales of the world as far as they can, focusing on areas fraught with drought, poverty, or disease. They bring healing, song, laughter, and food with them, spreading the joy of hope, and building communities of faith to leave in their wake.
